National University of Sciences and Technology commonly referred to as NUST, is a public research university with main campus in Islamabad, Pakistan and other subsidiary campuses in different cities of Pakistan.
Established in March 1991 primarily for the promotion of STEM subjects, it has since then expanded through establishing a more comprehensive curriculum consisting of economics, finance, management and social sciences degrees. NUST was established in 1991 by merging military and civil educational resources. After its development, existing military schools and colleges became constituent colleges of NUST. The first college to be affiliated with NUST was MCS in 1991.
In 1993, the university was granted a charter and CEME and MCE became part of the university. In December 1994 and November 1995, CAE and PNEC became constituents of NUST respectively.
All the constituent colleges were upgraded, in September 1997 MS program was started at CAE, in 1998, MS program was started at PNEC and in the same year Bachelor of Dental Surgery was started at AMC. In 1999, CEME and CAE attained ISO 9001 Certification, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SEECS) was launched in Islamabad, and NUST Business School (then known as NIMS) was established.School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME) offers degrees in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering and is one of the most competitive engineering schools of Pakistan.
As of 2016, NUST has over 15,000 full-time students enrolled, over 20 departments with over 1,280 academic faculty staff. It is ranked by QS World Ranking’s as among the leading 50 universities under the age of 50, and is ranked by QS as among top 500 universities in the world.

Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) is a public institute focused on the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It is located in Islamabad, Pakistan.
Founded in 1967 as Reactor School in response to increasing industrialisation of Pakistan, the institute started its educational activities with the affiliation of Quaid-e-Azam University, and became Centre for Nuclear Studies (CNS) in 1976; the institute gained its new name and became independent in 1997.In 2000, PIEAS was granted the status of a degree awarding institute.

Introduction
The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology only referred as GIK, is a private research university located in Topi, Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The University of Engineering and Technology is a public research university located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan specialising in STEM subjects.
Founded in 1921 as Maclagan Engineering College, it was named after Edward Douglas MacLagan. In 1932, the school became an affiliated college of the University of Punjab and began offering undergraduate degrees in engineering disciplines.
In 1962, the university was granted a charter and renamed as the West Pakistan University of Engineering. In 1972, the university was renamed as UET. It established a second campus in 1975 in Taxila, which in 1998 became an independent university in its own right.

Institute of Space Technology (also known as IST) is a public research university located in Islamabad, Pakistan focused on the study of astronomy, aerospace engineering and astronautics.
In this backdrop, it was decided in the year 2002 to establish an educational institution that would impart specialized education in space and related science to bring our nation at par with the international community.

7. Mehran University Of Engineering & Technology

Introduction
Mehran University of Engineering and Technology referred as Mehran University or MUET) is a public research university located in Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan focused on STEM education.
Established in July 1976, as a campus of the University of Sindh, and a year later was chartered as an independent university. It was ranked 6th in engineering category of Higher Education Institutions in the “5th Ranking of Pakistani Higher Education Institutions” in 2016.
Established in 1963 in a direct response to industrialization as Sind University Engineering College, it was affiliated with Sindh University (est. 1951) at Jamshoro until 1973, when the charter of “Engineering University” was granted under the title of “Mehran University of Engineering & Technology”. The first batch of MUET was inducted in January 1974 with enrollment of 450 students in civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, metallurgy, chemical and industrial engineering.
Initially the classes were started at Government College of Technology, Sakrand Road, Nawabshah, with students residing in college hostels (some class rooms were converted into residential dormitory).
Some students acquired private houses in the Society area in Nawabshah, where they lived for two years until newly constructed hostel blocks were made available adjacent to the college campus. Notable residences in the area included Sukkur House, Maruwara Hostel and Arab House (where Jordanian, Palestinian and some other foreign national students stayed).
With the induction of third batch in 1976, the students of the first batch were shifted to Jamshoro to complete their third year and final year of engineering education.
This was predominately due to availability of well equipped laboratories and highly qualified faculty at MUET Jamshoro campus, and also due to shortage of space for classrooms and labs at Nawabshah since the number of students had risen to 1500 when the third batch was admitted.
The same practice continued for other junior batches who passed their second year of engineering at MUET, Nawabshah and were transferred to MUET Campus at Jamshoro to resume fifth semester (third year).
The school is ranked among the top ten institutions of higher learning in Pakistan by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) as of 2013.

The Air University or AU is a public research university located in Islamabad and Multan, Pakistan.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) established the university in 2002. Its status is granted as civilian and offers programmes in undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral studies. 9. National Textile University (NTU)

Introduction
National Textile University (NTU) is the premier institution of textile education in Pakistan. It was formerly known as National College of Textile Engineering affiliated with University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore since 1976.
The campus is spread over an area of 62 acres. The university is in the outskirts of city of Faisalabad about 12 km from the city center on Sheikhupura road.National Textile University is accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).
The idea of establishing a textile institute was conceived by a group of industrialists in 1954. To realize this idea the government of Punjab joined with textile industrialists to form the Institute of Textile Technology in Faisalabad (then Lyallpur) and provided 62 acres of state owned land free of cost. Kohinoor Industries, Colony Textile Mills, Dawood Foundation and Lyallpur Cotton Mills provided funds to the tune of Rs. 2.5 millions, which were used for the construction of building and provision of other infrastructure.
The government of the UK provided the bulk of equipment and machinery, along with the services of experts under the Colombo Plan. Field Marshall Muhammad Ayub Khan, the then president of Pakistan, laid the foundation stone, on 12 October 1959.
A Board of Trustees, with the Minister of Industries as chairman and nominees of the donor companies as members, was constituted to manage the affairs of the institute. In 1965 it was granted affiliation by the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, and it was renamed as National College of Textile Engineering.
The first batch of graduate engineers was passed out in 1966. The Federal Cabinet on November 15, 2002 upgraded the college to National Textile University.

10. NED University Of Engineering And Technology

Introduction
The NED University of Engineering & Technology, was established in March 1977 under an act of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh after upgrading of the former NED Government Engineering College, which was set up in 1921.
The NED University is thus one of the oldest institution in Pakistan for teaching and producing Engineering graduates. Prior to this, the D.J.Sindh College , used to run classes to train subordinates for the Sindh P.W.D., the Municipalities and Local Boards.
The original NED Engineering College was housed in four blocks of buildings and two sheds. The main block was named as Seth Fatehchand Dewandas Khilnani Hall.
The block housing the Power House, Electrical and Hydraulics Laboratories, and Workshops was named after Bai Puribai and Bacharbai. Further additions were made to this block to provide accommodation for the Machine Shop on the ground floor and a (Mechanical) Drawing Hall on the first floor.
The fourth block, completed in 1945, contained a Classroom and Clerk’s Office on the ground floor and another (Civil) Drawing Hall on the first floor.
Two sheds were also built, one to house the Carpentry and Smithy Shops, and the other, alongside the Electrical Laboratory and Engine Room, to train technicians.
The total cost of the buildings was just over Rs. 265,000 and the cost of equipment (including machinery, electrical instruments; models, steam, gas and oil engines; surveying and leveling instruments), books and furniture was just under Rs. 400,000.
The college remained affiliated to the University of Bombay from its inception in 1922 to 1947, after which it was taken over by the Government of Sindh; renamed as NED Government Engineering College and affiliated to the University of Sindh. After establishment of the University of Karachi in 1951, the affiliation of the College was transferred to this University. In 1964 a comprehensive plan was prepared to shift the college from its location in the congested downtown area (where no expansion was possible) to a new site adjoining the University of Karachi.
The project was carried out with the assistance of the World Bank which provided Rs.118 millions in two phases and the College was shifted to its new 40 hectare Main Campus in 1975.
On the 1st of March, 1977 the NED Government Engineering College became the NED University of Engineering and Technology. From an enrolment of 50 students in 1923, the student population, at both undergraduate and graduate levels, has now gone up to nearly 7000.
The faculty of Bio-Medical Engineering is located at NED LEJ Campus for which the land and building – estimated value Rs. 350 million – was donated by (Late) Latif Ebrahim Jamal, a well known philanthropist.
