Q1. What Exactly Is MDCAT?
MDCAT stands for Medical and Dental College Admission Test. This is a compulsory entrance test for the students who want to secure an admission in any prestigious medical or dental college of Punjab.
Q2. Is There An Eligibility Criterion For Appearing In MDCAT?
Yes, there is! The candidate should have passed the Intermediate Examination in the Science Group (HSSC/FSc). The minimum passing marks should not be less than 60% i.e., 660 marks out of 1100 from the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Pakistan.
However, the pass out students of any foreign examination board (A’ Level, I.B., 12th Grade) can also appear in MDCAT. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has deemed it compulsory for such students to have studied the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics in their Intermediate level.
An equivalence certificate is required from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairman of Pakistan (IBCC). This acquired certificate should be equivalent to 60% passing marks of the Intermediate Science (HSSC/FSc) of Pakistan.
Q3. When Does The Admission Begin For The MDCAT Test?
The admission for the MDCAT test begins right after the end of the Intermediate exams in July 2020.
Q4. What Is The Procedure For Applying To MDCAT?
The candidates can apply online for MDCAT on the official website of the University of Health Sciences (UHS), who announces its schedule.
Q5. When Is The MDCAT Conducted?
The MDCAT is conducted by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) during the months of August or September.
Q6. What Are The Important Documents Needed To Apply In MDCAT?
When applying for admission in MDCAT, the candidates need to submit the following essential documents along with the application form:
- Candidate’s one attested domicile copy
- One envelope of A4 size with a postal stamp of Rs. 40/-
- One attested copy of the candidate’s Matric or SSC or equivalent examination certificate
- One attested copy of the candidate’s FSc (Pre-medical) or HSSC or equivalent examination certificate
- Candidate should post two-colored pictures of 2.5cm × 2.5cm, on the two cards
- Recent four colored pictures of the candidate of 3.5cm × 4.5cm, which should be attested. The three pictures should be attested on the back cover and attached, while the one picture should be attested on the front side and should be attached on the application form
- The Hafiz-e-Quran candidate should attach the certificate from a registered Madrassa
- One attested copy of the Birth Certificate by the Union Council should be attached if the date of birth is not mentioned on the Matric certificate
Q7. What Exactly Is The Syllabus Of The MDCAT?
The syllabus of the MDCAT will be from the recognized books of HSSC, FSc or equivalent examination textbooks. All the questions will be from the subjects of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. No question will be out of the above-mentioned syllabus.
Q8. What Is The Test Pattern Or Format Of The MDCAT?
All the MDCAT questions will be in the Multiple Choice test pattern. There are 200 questions in this test. These questions will be in the following format:
- 88 MCQs of Biology
- 58 MCQs of Chemistry
- 44 MCQs of Physics
- 30 MCQs of English
Q9. How Many Marks And Time Is Allocated For MDCAT?
A total of 2 hours and 30 minutes will be allowed for the MDCAT test. This test contains a total of 1100 marks. Each correct answer carries 5 marks.
Q10. Is There Any Negative Marking In MDCAT?
Yes, there is negative marking in the medical entrance exam. As each question carries 5 marks for the correct answer, however, in the case of a wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

The validity duration of the MDCAT is only for the session (year), the candidate appears for it. The result of the MDCAT stands invalid after the admission session of that year ends.
