I live in a small village called Morni Hills located at the foothills of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh. It is a beautiful village surrounded by lush green forests and snow-capped mountains. There are around 500 people living in our village. Most of the houses are made of brick and mud and have thatched roofs. The main occupation of the villagers is farming.

Our village is very beautiful especially during monsoon when the whole area turns green. There are many trees like pine, oak and rhododendron surrounding our village. We also have a huge playground where we play cricket and football. There is a small river flowing at the edge of our village. I love sitting on the rocks near the river and watching the flowing water.

The people of our village are very warm and friendly. Everyone knows each other and they help each other in times of need. We celebrate all festivals like Diwali, Holi, Eid together with great enthusiasm. I feel very lucky to have been born and brought up in this beautiful village. It has given me a carefree childhood and taught me the importance of relationships. Though our village lacks many modern amenities, the serene beauty and the people more than make up for it. I live in a small, beautiful village called Lachung which is located in the state of Sikkim, India. Surrounded by lush green hills, snow-capped mountains and chirping birds, Lachung is like a scene straight out of a postcard. Our village is very small with just about 80 families living here but is rich in natural beauty and culture.

Life in My Village

The houses in Lachung are made of wood and stone and have slanted roofs to prevent snow from accumulating during winters. The people here are very warm and welcoming. Everyone knows everyone else. We celebrate festivals and special occasions together with great pomp and show. Dance, music and traditional food is an integral part of all our celebrations.Farming is the primary occupation with people growing crops like wheat, rice, vegetables and fruits. Some people also rear cows, goats and sheep. The vegetables and dairy products from our farms are so fresh and tasty! The forests surrounding our village have many medicinal herbs and plants. People often forage the forests to collect mushrooms, herbs and wild fruits. The natural bounty from the forests supplements our income and daily diet.We have a small primary school in our village where the classes are held in the open air. A teacher comes from the nearby town to teach the village kids.

For higher education, children have to go to the town which is 5 miles away. There are many young children in our village and it is lot of fun playing games like hide-and-seek, racing, gilli-danda with them. We also have a playground where the elders play games like volleyball and football in the evenings.The best part of living in Lachung is its natural beauty. The river Teesta flows through our village and I love sitting on its banks watching the water flow. The jingling sound of the water is very soothing. Seeing the stars glitter brightly on a clear night is an ethereal experience. Taking a walk through the oak and pine trees after a snowfall is my favorite winter activity. The white snow blankets everything in a shining coat of white making the surroundings dazzlingly beautiful.Though we lack many modern amenities, the peaceful and lovely environment here compensates for everything. The pure air, fresh food and tranquil surroundings make Lachung an ideal place to live.
