Introduction to King Edward Medical University KEMU

King Edward Medical University is located in Lahore since its establishment in 1860 by BritishRaj to be named after King Edward VII. In 1895, it gained its place as an independent and degree-granting medical university and raised its status and merit since then, becoming one of the top medical universities of Pakistan.
Initially, Anarkali Dispensary availed the credit to be affiliated with King Edward Medical University but in 1871, after 11 years of establishment, it dismissed Anarkali Dispensary and added Mayo Hospital as an ally.

Who is Eligible for King Edward Medical University?
Candidates have to appear in UHS- MDCAT to get admission in KEMU. University of Health Sciences UHS conducts MDCAT governed by the Government of Punjab to grant admission to candidates in MBBS, BDS, and DPT in private and public sector medical universities.
Admission will open in the month of October – November and it will be advertised in the newspaper as well as on KEMU’s official website i.e. www.kemu.edu.pk. Following criteria determines the eligibility of a candidate for admitting in KEMU:-
- Candidate’s age should be less than 20 years old at the time of submission of application for MBBS or DP
- The educational criteria are FSc Pre- Medical or any equivalent degree with Biology, Physics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.
- You must have 60% marks in Matric as well as in FSc (pre-medical).
- At the time of application, if the candidate is waiting for the 2nd year result, he can apply on the basis of a hope certificate.
- You should have a score of a minimum of 60% in the recent MDCAT test.
- After the clearance of the test, the candidate will undergo a medical examination before submission of the fee.
How to Apply for King Edward Medical University?
Candidates who are willing to appear for MDCAT test have to register themselves at official UHS site i.e. http://uhs.edu.pk
Students have to achieve a minimum of 70% marks in FSc for attempting MDCAT.
How to get registered for MDCAT (Local Students)?
These are the simple steps to get yourself registered for MDCAT.
- Visit the official website of University of Health Sciences UHS on http://uhs.edu.pk
- Register yourself by providing an authentic CNIC number or passport number. Provide an email account and set a password. Note that you can have one registration for one CNIC number. Provide your authentic information.
- You will be allotted a roll number on this pattern I.e. 123456789
- After submission of the registration form, take out the print of fee challan and submit the fee i.e. 1,300 /- PKR in any branch of Bank of Punjab ( in any city of Pakistan ). The registration fee is nonrefundable.
- The applicant’s copy will be stamped and returned to you.
- You will be contacted within 3 days/ 72 hours after submission of the fee and registration form and will be updated about the admittance card. The admittance card will contain the candidate’s test center and roll number.
- You have to take out the print of the Admittance card and bring it to the center on the arranged date of the test.

Documents Required for MDCAT/ UHS registration
The following documents are mandatory for registration of UHS- MDCAT. Be sure of the availability of the below mentioned:-
- Domicile Certificate
- CNIC or B form issued by NADRA
- Result card of SSC or equivalent
- Result card of HSSC or equivalent (If part II result is awaiting, an applicant can provide the result of part I only)
- A recent picture in soft form
Dates of Registration for MDCAT
The test will be conducted in the last week of September whereas Registration will start in the month of August.

Submission of Fee:
The registration fee for MDCAT is 1,300/- PKR to be submitted in any branch of Bank of PUNJAB BOP nationwide

Programs you can take admission in:
There are various departments in King Edward Medical University KEMU. Candidates can apply for Undergraduate programs i.e. MBBS, DPT, and 15 various BSc programs.
For Post – Graduate Programmes such as Ph.D., MS, MD, and MPhil, candidates can apply for 15 MPhil Programmes. Candidates can apply for 13 MD and 12 MS programs. There are various fellowships and other professional programs.
Choice of Center:
MDCAT test is conducted once a year (generally in September) in the major cities of Pakistan. The candidates have the liberty to provide accurate information about their city and residence and thus they are facilitated upon the choice of the center. There are more than one MDCAT test centers in one city based upon the number of candidates from a particular region.

How to calculate MDCAT aggregate?
You have to follow the following steps for calculation of MDCAT aggregate:-
1) 10% marks of SSC/ Equivalent degree
Formula:- Marks obtained × 1100 × 0.10
2) 45% marks of HSSC/ Equivalent degree
Formula:- Marks obtained × 1100 × 0.45
3) 45% marks of NUMS-MDCAT
Formula:- Marks obtained × 1100 × 0.45
How to calculate KEMU admission aggregate?
You have to follow the following steps for calculation of KEMU aggregate in MBBS:-
1) 10% marks of SSC/ Equivalent degree
Formula:- Marks obtained × 1100 × 0.10
2) 40% marks of HSSC/ Equivalent degree
Formula:- Marks obtained × 1100 × 0.40
3) 50% marks of NUMS-MDCAT
Formula:- Marks obtained × 1100 × 0.50
Selection Procedure of King Edward Medical University KEMU:
1) After clearing of the entrance test, the candidate undergoes following procedure for final selection
2) Medical examination of shortlisted candidates to be granted admission to KEMU
3) Submission of original documents to KEMU. The details of the documents are to be discussed in the next section.

Important Documents:
The following are the compulsory documents required for admission in King Edward Medical University KEMU. Note that you have to submit the ORIGINAL document with 4 ATTESTED PHOTOCOPIES IN PLASTIC FOLDER with the University Office before submitting the University fee.
- Original Matric result card and 4 attested copies / Equivalent degree/certificate
- Origin HSSC pre-medical result card and 4 attested copies / Equivalent degree/ certificate
- Character certificate issued by the previous college / Provisional Certificate
- Result Card of Entry Test
- Domicile certificate
- Copy of CNIC
- Board migration Certificate ( in case the board is other than Lahore board for FSc)
- Birth certificate (if the date of birth is not available on Matric result card)
- Latest 4 passport size photograph of the candidate (sky blue background is a must)
- A certificate that you have been inoculated against the enteric group of fevers within the previous 12 months. Bring an X-ray of the chest.
- Certificate of full vaccination against Tetanus.
- Certificate of a full course of immunization against Hepatitis B Virus
- Enclosed Surety bond on a stamped paper of worth Rs. 100/- duly attested by the Judicial Magistrate First Class
- Enclosed Registration form of PMDC undergraduate student
Important Notes For Admission:
1) Photocopies of required documents should be attested by Government Officers in BS -17 or above.
2) The admission is liable to be canceled if any error or defect is detected in the documents at any stage of the study.
