Introduction to Karachi Grammar School

KGS is one of the oldest schools in Pakistan, founded in 1847 by Sir Bartle Frere, who was at the time of its founding the Commissioner of Sindh.

Karachi Grammar School was founded in 1847 by Mrs. Eliza Mary Littledale on behalf of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), with five students. It moved to its present site in 1854, when it had around fifty students. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, KGS became a co-educational institution with approximately 2,000 students and 130 teachers and support staff.

KGS celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1997, as documented in the book So That They May Have Life: The Story of Karachi Grammar School (1847-1997) by Astrid Lobo Gajiwala.

KGS has always been one of the leading schools in Pakistan both academically and in sports. It has produced many eminent people from all walks of life including politicians, scientists, authors, sportsmen etc.

The academic structure of Karachi Grammar School

KGS is located in different sites and divided into 4 sections depending on the stages of student education:

  • At Clifton location (opened in 1991) housing classes from Nursery to Class VI
  • At Saddar location housing classes from Classes VII, VIII and IX
  • At Clifton location housing classes of O and A-level

Step 1:

Click on the online admission form available at the official website of KGS at http://admission.kgs.edu.pk/AdmissionForm.php.

Step 2:

Select the desired class/year you want your child to enroll in at KGS.

Step 3:

Fill in your child’s personal details including his/her date of birth, nationality, religion, CNIC or B-form number, address, and contact number.

Step 4:

Attach the required documents by uploading the scanned copies on the admission form.

Step 5:

Fill in the father or guardian’s CNIC number, address, contact number, working contact, and occupation information.

Step 6:

Add the mother’s CNIC number, occupation, address, working contact, and regular contact details.

Step 7:

Add any additional information about your child’s including any medical issue or extracurricular activity worthy of school’s notice and concern.

Step 8:

Prepare your child for the Interview discussion round and the Admission Test.

Step 9:

Show up at least 15 minutes before with your child for his Interview session and Admission Test. Bring with yourself copies of the required documents and a printout of the online admission form.

Step 10:

What are the Documents required for Admission in Karachi Grammar School?

  • Your child’s original Birth Certificate issued by the office of NADRA
  • Your child original B-form Certificate as issued by the office of NADRA
  • A latest formal Passport size picture of your child
  • The latest family picture of the child with his/her parents or guardians
